We really like Wikipedia. During a recent visit, we noticed the plea for donations at the top of a page. Pursuing the various "other ways to donate" and "frequently asked questions" links, we found that their current policy is to not accept Bitcoin. We'd love to see that change, and we're putting our money where our mouth is.
We just emailed
I would like to donate 0.05BTC (about 44USD by today's exchange rate) to the Wikimedia Foundation today. I'm also certain that the moment you announce that you'll accept Bitcoin donations, you will receive a nice little flood of donations from like-minded individuals. There are now many choices of Bitcoin wallet software or online service providers to choose from. Check out services such as BitPay.com and Coinbase.com if you don't wish to hold/invest in Bitcoin and would simply like it converted immediately to a government-backed currency and direct-deposited into a regular bank account. If you do wish to hold and store Bitcoins, I will be happy to work with you and produce 2 or 3 copies of a Bitcoin Firesafe (a safe cold-storage mechanism) and ship them to your organization as an additional donation.
We build custom, secure storage mechanisms for Bitcoin. As people begin to accumulate serious asset holdings in Bitcoin, they require safety from various threats: fire, viruses, water damage, burglary, etc... We provide that safety to our clients.
Want to watch the value of Bitcoin, your whole portfolio, or perhaps the amount you've stored on one of our Bitcoin Fire Safes? If you use Windows 7 or Windows Vista, we have a free desktop gadget that will show you the price from CoinBase. It's completely free, and the source is not obfuscated.
